For this he was sentenced to 6 months of solitary confinement but was never regretful for his actions. While in prison, Gaskins committed his first prison murder in order to gain power and respect among the other penitentiary inmates. When he was questioned eventually by his employers' daughter, he split her skull with an axe and subsequently served a 5 year sentence. In response he began setting fires to local barns. While working on a tobacco farm during this point in time, Donald picked up an insurance fraud charge. Gaskins got on with the carnival and also married a 13 year old girl, but eventually moved on to carry out his life and crimes at his own pace. He eventually escaped the reform school and in the following years met the owner of a traveling carnival, who happened to be his 'Boss Boy' from the reform school, who also still reveled in shady dealings.
He was immediately picked by the bigger boys to be prostituted amongst them. Gaskins' experience at the reform school was difficult, especially so given his slight stature. Thankfully she survived and Gaskins was convicted to the South Carolina Industrial School for Boys until he turned 18. She attacked him with an axe, only to be struck in the head and arm herself. Gaskins himself was tied upside down and whipped until his mother realized that he had gotten an erection from the beating.Ģ years after this incident, Gaskins broke into the home of a woman he knew, only to be caught in the act of burglary. This all came to an end when the three were beaten for gang raping Marsh's young sister. They then dedicated themselves to burglarizing homes, picking up prostitutes, engaging in intercourse amongst themselves, and sexually assaulting young girls in the area. The three learned that they all shared a taste for violent misconduct, mirrored in naming themselves the "Trouble Trio".
Gaskins quickly made similarly aged friends in his line of work, by the names of Danny and Marsh. Because of this, he dropped out of school at age 11 to become a mechanic. His early life was marked withbouts of neglect followed by violent abuse by his stepfather and classmates.

He was the last of a series of illegitimate children and as he was also small for his age, the nickname Pee Wee came to him quickly and never faded, as he only ever grew to 5'4" and never weighed more than 130lbs. He led an unsupervised life from an early age and when Gaskins was just a year old he drank a whole bottle of kerosene, also known as Paraffin, which caused him the have convulsions until he was three years old. Gaskins was born in Florence County, SC in 1933. In this novel titled "Final Truth: The Autobiography of a Serial Killer" Earl himself states that Gaskins, over the 15 month period in which the killer engaged in a series of interviews with him, had made him believe in the death penalty whereas he had been previously against it. His story and victims are widely unknown and while the killer wanted to go down infamously in history, he has since met his end on death row with his account being recorded and published posthumously by author-journalist Wilton Earl. Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins was an American serial killer whose murders of over 9 (claimed 110+) men, women, and children were inhumanly horrendous in nature (ranging from a variety of 'traditional' murder methods to rape and cannibalism to mercenary work).
